You name it, there's a community for it somewhere online. No matter how niche you think your interests are, if there's one other person on the planet who shares that interest, odds are they've started an online community for it.
Increasingly people expect to intereact with and belong to online communities, not just visit web sites. The open, standards based nature of the Internet enables, of course, the global community of web users, but those users also belong to mire tightly defined communities of geography, of occupation, of interest.
