ActiveGrid and Optaros Form Strategic Alliance to Bring Open Source Grid Computing to Enterprise Applications

Partnership to Combine ActiveGrid Software and Optaros Consulting and Solutions for Enterprise IT Open Source Users

SAN FRANCISCO and BOSTON — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 13, 2005 — ActiveGrid, Inc., a commercial open source software company, and Optaros, an open source software consulting and integration firm, today announced a joint partnership to advance the LAMP (Linux, Apache, My-SQL, PHP) software stack into the Global 2000. The strategic alliance includes areas of joint technology collaboration as well as joint go-to-market activities.

ActiveGrid has created an innovative open source application server and native XML rapid application development environment that enables LAMP software technology to deliver more reliable, higher performance software applications. While LAMP based software, often called “the LAMP stack,” has been growing rapidly in usage, it can be difficult to scale as applications grow. The ActiveGrid application server enables deployment of composite applications across a horizontally-scaled grid of commodity computers. This "transaction grid" computing model simplifies application development and delivers unprecedented levels of reliability, scalability, flexibility and adaptability for mainstream business applications.

“Optaros understands how to help large enterprises capture the great value of using open source software to more efficiently design, build, and deploy new business applications and we are delighted that they will be creating a focus on ActiveGrid,” said Peter Yared ActiveGrid´s CEO. “ActiveGrid provides a new level of power and reliability to LAMP software and we're looking forward to working with Optaros on helping enterprise customers solve their LAMP performance and reliability issues.”

Optaros will use the ActiveGrid Application Builder and ActiveGrid Grid Application Server in engagements with clients. “At the open source infrastructure level, our clients are looking for ways to architect, build, and deploy applications that will scale to meet their business needs. We see ActiveGrid as leading the way with their new application server for these technologies, providing new ways to scale and manage applications as circumstances change. ActiveGrid has created an approach that supports both standards and today´s real production challenges,” said Dave Gynn, Practice Lead of Optaros´ Application Infrastructure Practice.

“Today open source software gives organizations licensing flexibility and costs savings as application usage grows and systems configurations change,” said Bob Gett, CEO and President of Optaros. “ActiveGrid and their new application server take this a step further with new technology that simplifies large application configuration and management. Making the power of grid computing easily available, and doing this based on industry standards such as XML, provide new options to our enterprise IT clients.”
