Radio stations first leveraged the internet to break down the physical barriers of radio signals and allow listeners to enjoy the content around the globe.  Until very recently, that has been largely the extent of radio station innovation with the internet.

Chicago Public Radio chose to move to the Next Generation Internet with their launch of Vocalo.  Vocalo is a compelling new online format that combines user generated media (text, photos, videos and music) into real-time broadcasted shows with live hosts.  The community is also grounded geographically to provide a strong sense of community to the online efforts.  This groundbreaking format reflects the strong leadership at the station.

The technical underpinings of Vocalo include the open source community software - Drupal.  Drupal provides a solid web content management system for this type of multi-media, social community.
