The keys to successfully supporting a solution assembled from open source solution include:
- Building a quality solution from the start, selecting the right components at the right level for the particular solution
- Understanding open source projects and communities and leveraging them effectively
- Managing and tracking the components utilized. This includes maintaining awareness of roadmaps for utilized components and understanding the interrelations between the components
Optaros has successfully assembled dozens of open source solutions. We have deep experience working with open source communities, including active committers on key projects and partnerships with major open source vendors. We leverage our Integrated Assembly Environment to manage the assembly process as well as the support functions. Using this platform, we can centrally track all activity related to the solution, including requests, updates, and releases as well as components and integration points.
Utilizing our experience and the IAE platform we have been successfully providing support over two years. For clients such as the NY Times we provide a single vendor solution to support the entire assembly. Fixes, upgrades, and enhancements are provided, in some ways, similar to a commercial solution. However, our experience shows that corrections are provided more quickly and with better results than by typical commercial vendors.
