Many PR professionals argue that companies should continue to use traditional wire services for the greater visibility they create online given their distribution relationships with Google News, Yahoo News, etc. The visibility is certainly useful, but after measuring the results of comparable press releases sent with and without wire services it is hard to justify the added cost.
These free alternatives provide a useful option for Marketers looking for alternatives to the costly PR news wires (Business Wire, PR Newswire, etc.) that charge per press release depending on word length (usually $800-$1,200).
